🎧 The Mix Begins: 2016
Our story started with a DJ gig, obviously! Akṣara needed music for her mom’s 40th, and a friend connected her with Shoveen. They met face-to-face on March 10th for the first time at Brackenhurst Primary School and Shoveen immediately accepted the gig. In April, Shoveen & his cousins played music for the party and met Akṣara’s whole family, and by June, he was asking her on a first date. Akṣara did all the talking, while Shoveen sat, stared, fixated on her and barely said a word. The chemistry was definitely brewing, but Akṣara shied away from him after that first date.
💍 Not Quite a Proposal: 2017
Shoveen didn’t give up! After months of persistence, he convinced Akṣara to go bowling in December 2016, and the magic finally started to happen. Just after Valentine’s Day, he shocked Akṣara by going down on one knee in public (just to ask her to be his girlfriend!) – she was completely taken aback! But by March 10, 2017, exactly one year after they first met, Akṣara finally said YES to being his girlfriend.
💖 Adventures & Faith: 2017 – 2024
Their adventures began immediately. They bonded over shared passions for food, wildlife & music (you can always find them at H2O!). As they grew, so did their faith. They dedicated themselves to keeping Sri Krishna at the center of everything, praying together and sharing many peaceful moments at the temple. Through every family function and DJ event, they knew their future was intertwined.
🥂 The Grand Finale: 2025
After much anticipation, 2025 started with a serious conversation in Dullstroom: marriage was officially on the cards! But Shoveen couldn’t resist one last surprise. Three days before their anniversary, he convinced Akṣara he was in a “car predicament” and needed a ride to an event at The Leonardo in Sandton. Rushing in a dress and minimal makeup, Akṣara found her way to the rooftop bar, only to be stunned! Their song, “Remedy” by Alesso, was blasting as she found Shoveen on a red carpet, ready to welcome her to the highest point in sub-Saharan Africa.
He popped the question, and this time, it was the real deal. We said YES!
Our wedding is not just about the two of us; it’s a gathering of family and friends who mean the world to us. Let’s make more beautiful memories together as we step into this new chapter.

The day we become one. With Sri Sri Rādhā-Kṛṣṇa in the centre of our union, we invite you to witness the most sacred moment of our journey: our traditional Vedic Hindu wedding ceremony. Join us as we exchange vows and fulfill the ancient Vivaah Sanskaar rites, symbolising the union of two souls and two families.

The vows have been exchanged, and the rings are on! Prepare for a magnificent evening of excitement, heartfelt toasts, and non-stop dancing as we celebrate our new chapter as Mr. and Mrs. Singh.

The final and sacred ritual of the wedding week is the Bidaai. A ceremony symbolising the transition of the bride to her marital home. Join us in offering prayers and blessings for Akṣara as she receives a final embrace from her family before beginning her new journey with Shoveen as the Singh’s.
Guests attending the Bidaai who are not hotel residents, please be advised that breakfast service will be available for your enjoyment, but the charge will be for your personal account upon arrival.
